Telangana Restructures Police Commissionerates: Four Units Formed to Align with ‘Future City’ and 2047 Vision
HYDERABAD: In a landmark move to bolster law and order and support rapid urbanization, the Telangana government has officially reorganized the police administrative structure into four distinct commissionerates: Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, and the newly created Future City. This restructuring follows the state’s “2047 Vision Document” unveiled during the Telangana Rising Global Summit, which aims to transform the state into a $3 trillion economy. Under the new plan, the police jurisdiction is being aligned with the expanded GHMC boundaries and the strategic development of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) corridor, ensuring a more streamlined approach to governance and public safety.
The reorganization is deeply integrated with the government’s three-tier development strategy—CURE, PURE, and RARE—and the recent expansion of GHMC to include 27 surrounding municipalities. As the capital region expands into 12 zones and 300 wards, the police system has been recalibrated to manage this growth. The Hyderabad Commissionerate will now oversee high-security zones including the Assembly, Secretariat, Shamshabad Airport, and the upcoming High Court at Budvel. Meanwhile, Cyberabad will continue its focus on the IT and industrial powerhouses, covering Gachibowli, Financial District, Patancheru, and Genome Valley.
A significant highlight of this rejig is the transformation of the Rachakonda Commissionerate into the Malkajgiri Commissionerate, which will now cover areas like Keesara, Shamirpet, and Kompally. Notably, Bhongir has been removed from the commissionerate fold to function as a separate police unit with its own Superintendent of Police (SP) for Yadadri Bhongir district. Furthermore, to cater to the rapid expansion of the “Future City” project, a dedicated Fourth Commissionerate has been established, encompassing Chevella, Moinabad, Maheshwaram, and Ibrahimpatnam. The state government has issued formal orders appointing Commissioners for the four units and an SP for Bhongir to ensure immediate operational efficiency.
