Develop Chennur into a Model Municipality: Minister G. Vivek Venkatswamy

Labour and Mines Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy called for transforming Chennur Municipality into a model urban local body with holistic development across all sectors. He thanked the people of Chennur for placing their trust in the Congress leadership and electing its representatives, and advised councillors to remain accessible to citizens, listen to grievances, identify priority issues, and ensure timely resolution.

The Minister attended the charge-taking ceremony of newly elected Municipal Chairperson Peddinti Padma as the chief guest and conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to her and the governing body members.

Development Works Underway

Dr. Venkatswamy stated that development activities are in progress across all municipal wards, with projects worth approximately ₹50 crore already grounded. Works such as borewells, CC roads, and side drains are being executed in several areas. He reaffirmed that, in line with election promises, drinking water would be supplied to every household under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme.

Alleging large-scale misuse of funds under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme by the previous government, the Minister assured that a dedicated drinking water project based on Godavari River water would be implemented for Chennur residents. He also announced that road-widening works in the town would commence soon.

Housing, Infrastructure, and Civic Facilities

Funds have been allocated for constructing community buildings for caste associations. Responding to public demand, the Minister assured that Godavari sand would be made available to local residents within six months. Recalling the earlier poor road conditions in Maremmavada—where even auto-rickshaws could not ply—he noted that roads were laid after his election.

He further informed that:

  • 100 new Indiramma houses have been sanctioned
  • Housing scheme issues were discussed in the Cabinet
  • Previous government was criticised for pending contractor bills
  • ₹18 crore compensation distributed to farmers of Devulawada, Babberu, and Cheluk villages
  • A 100-bed hospital will be inaugurated in May
  • Crematorium development works are underway at a cost of ₹1.20 crore

Commitment to Further Growth

Referring to his earlier in-charge role in Medak district, the Minister said he had strengthened the Congress party there and would similarly work to bring more funds and accelerate development in Chennur.

He concluded by urging all stakeholders to work in unity across every ward to achieve comprehensive development of Chennur town in line with the aspirations of its people.
